I just wanna start off by saying Yebba’s voice is angelic. It just gives off that dead wife aesthetic, and that’s honestly how one usually feels. The person that loved you no longer exists, and the new version of them doesn’t love you. You may have changed for the better, but if someone has decided that they’re done, nothing you say or do will matter.
It takes two to finish a loop, and if only one person is trying, there’s no point. It’s the hard truth, but there’s nothing we can do about it. This song really does bring that message home.
I would honestly not recommend listening to this if you’re drunk or not in the right state, because it would just give you a mental breakdown.
The first half does a great job of explaining how someone would keep begging and begging their significant other to not leave them. They (Drake and Don) grieve and beg and try to make it all work. Drake says:
History repeats itself but I don’t.
There are two ways to interpret this. One would be that he wouldn’t make the same mistakes again. Another would be that he wants to break out of the toxic cycle and won’t run it back with a relationship. Though I do personally believe the first interpretation is more accurate.
The entire second half is by Yebba, and bless her soul. She does an amazing job of expressing the pain behind the grieving process. It’s the phase when you’ve done everything you can, but realize that there’s nothing more you can do. When someone’s made up their mind, there’s only so much you can do. While it may suck at the time, you can at least be happy that your part in whatever relationship you were in was true. The song slowly fades with them just begging for the partner to come back, but we all know that they aren’t coming back.
More lines that I like from this song:
Why can’t you be with me every night?
Ever since you left me, I’m losin’ my mind, uh
Say you wanna change your life, then why don’t you?
I’d trade my dreams for something good, come back
